Light Infantry and their weakness vs Cavalry

Postby druid » Tue Sep 16, 2008 5:18 pm

I'm interested to know why light infantry are so poor in melee vs cavalry?

Obviously, if a loose formation was used, this would render them hoof-fodder, but surely all of the napoleonic armies that had standard trained light regiments would have drilled the men the same as the line for normal action?

In fact, in most cases I understand that light infantry were superior to their line counterparts in all aspects of manoeuvre and fighting, taking the left-of-the-line position for this very fact - to oppose the grenadier coy of the opposition?

Any thoughts lads and ladies?

They would be overpowered and the balance would suffer if they were rendered in the game as they were irl.
