Farewell NTW2

Postby Lord Liberalis » Wed Apr 21, 2010 1:48 pm

The sensations it brought me while playing in the boots of a Field Marshal for over 3 years were truly breathtaking.
This game brought me lots of fun and exciting moments while charging columns into enemy formations, smashing to pieces a line with a dozen of 12 pounders or making reconnaissance missions with a unit of Guard Chasseurs à Cheval.
Not only did It bring me joy but it also sparked a limitless thirst for reading everything about the Napoleonic Wars.
Moreover, I found cool friends and an awesome community, even if we had sometimes "little disagreements".
All in all, it was one of my greatest experiences in the video game universe.
It has been a true pleasure to play NTW2 and I will never forget it.
May your great spirit rise again through NTW3.

Farewell my beloved Napoleonic 2: Total War, farewell. :violin:
To save Russia, we have to burn Moscow.

...
FOG_OF_WAR:FALSE
RESTRICT_CAMERA:FALSE
DEFAULT_BATTLE_CAMERA:DEFAULT
...

Hey Lancier, this post reminded me of the many great ntw2 games many years ago, and of course the CB version of it.
I can remember so many of the maps, although I'd not be able to put a name to the map, but there were some super battlefields in ntw2.

It used to be played MP via gamespy, which was never that reliable, and which shut down some years ago.

Brilliant reminder Lancier......I don't mean any offence, but looking back I do think the ntw2 maps were better than the ntw3 ones, they were kind of more simple and straight forward. And the best thing was it only took about 1/2 an hour to make a new map.

In a way, maybe I even think ntw2 was better, but I expect that is just me being an "old git". I sure don't remember any ntw3 games as well as the ntw2 ones, except for some of the early HB games, which were fantastic, until the 10th time of playing the same game with the same forces starting in the same places.......

Do you remember a ntw2 map called "desert edge"......the French left was high ground going slowly downhill to their right. We must have had a 100 battles on that one, great days, or evenings...........perhaps we need a time machine to go back in time to those exceptional games.......oh, I nearly forgot, some of them were messed up by some people with those stupid shooting blocks, and the blob melee madness........but with the right people ntw2 was truly a great game.

I remember Marengo Evening from ntw2 i think. Ntw2 was good but I cant be unfaithful to ntw3 cause i played it more than ntw2 and had more fun i think? I remember great battles with the first 3 versions especially with Frog,Tac & Wym? Maybe some enjoyable HBs with Lepic,Falkon5 and Druid too. And then course battles with classic version 5-5.1 & 6 with Heisenberg, Alfr, White, Chromey, LaTour & Hekko!
I thank to all those people for these good and exciting games.
