Just spotted the post about win 7 64bit. Another question, will the mod run fine on a Win 7 32bit system & has any one set up a duel boot Win 7 64bit\32bit system?

A dual boot system should work fine. The NTW vanilla game was designed and released in 2010 for the 32-bit OS which was predominant at that time. Current Steam stats now list the 64-bit OS as the standard. The NTW3 MP mod runs fine on the 64-bit OS as they are intense one turn battles.

The Campaign game however is turn based and can involve numerous battles (perhaps in one turn) with multiple save options. Your CPU & OS must also keep the campaign map running in the background while you fight your battles. This along with the custom NTW3 units & stats can be very demanding even on high end rigs. The 32-bit OS is very steady & reliable (70+ turns for me) but the longer the campaign goes the more prone it is to freeze or crash with the AI involved running the game map & battles vs human players running the shorter MP battles. The 64 bit OS also introduced a lot of changes to the original 32-bit game design as explained here: https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/32-bit-vs-64-bit-operating-systems/

"The best example of this difference is right within your file system. If you’re a Windows user, you’ve probably noticed that you have two Program Files folders: One labeled simply “Program Files” and the other labeled “Program Files (x86). Applications all use shared resources on a Windows system (called DLL files), which are structured different depending on whether it’s used for 64-bit applications or 32-bit applications. If, for instance, a 32-bit application reaches out for a DLL and finds a 64-bit version, it’s just going to stop working. That’s the problem."

I also believe this was a major reason why CA had so many problems with the release of Rome 2 in September 2013 as they addressed this issue in their modding summit in the Spring of 2014 to get modders to help them fix their new release.

Win 7 is your best bet. Microsoft support for Windows XP ended April 8, 2014 which means no security updates or fixes.
