"Napoleon: Total War has stopped working"

Postby lawfish88 » Sat Nov 18, 2017 5:20 pm

Updated my previous post. Solved that problem. New problem: I'm getting the above error message upon launch. I reinstalled both vanilla and NTW3 to no avail. Note that the problem is only for NTW3. Darthmod and vanilla work just fine

This is usually because you haven't installed NTW3 in the right folder.

I restored vanilla from darthmod launcher and then uninstalled it and NTW3 still doesn't work. Problem must be with NTW3.

You're not supposed to install it to steam? I'll go check install instructions. I followed default pathway.

I installed it to the correct directory.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Napoleon Total War

How do I uninstall? I want to try again from scratch, but I don't see an option to uninstall.

There is an "unins000.exe" file.

You must have a "Napoleon.exe" file in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Napoleon Total War
And a "Napoleonic Total War III.exe" file in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Napoleon Total War\data\NTW3\Launcher7.5

I completely deleted everything related to NTW and reinstalled vanilla and then the mods. It worked. Then it stopped working. It only launched one time. Now I'm getting the same error again. At a loss over what to do.

Verified game cache via steam and it still doesn't launch.

Never realized how much I love this mod until I can't play it. Lol

Try removing all ntw files and folders, download ntw vanilla from Steam, verify files and play a few vanilla battles and campaigns to verify its working correctly.

Then download all three parts of NTW3 v75 mod (follow install instructions). All should work well except for SP Campaign game which still needs patch to fix launcher.

If you are running win 10:
1) Try running Napoleon.exe as an Administrator and in compatibility mode for win 7. (This is what I do)
2) Have a autosave in your savegames folder that is set to "read only". This will prevent the game from attempting to autosave which can cause crashes. (this is what I do)
3) In preferences script, state precisely how much video RAM you have in bytes (use an online calculator if need be). I was having terrible problems with video until I did this.
4) Setup the game with sound cache to 300mb , medium sound variation /64 ch. This seems to make a tremendous difference on game lag during battles. If you have a rig with a separate sound card (I use a high end laptop) you may have more leeway with sound.

Cheers, OG
